With the vintage Musical praise of God Telemann presented what was probably his most ambitious and elaborate printing project: The volume was engraved as a score in copper - in full voice and using the most expensive printing method of the time. He asked the Hamburg pastor and librettist Erdmann Neumeister, whom he held in high esteem, to write the texts for the volume. Telemann had probably known Neumeister since his student days in Leipzig, they both worked in Sorau and he had already worked with him in 1710/11 (Spiritual singing and playing, GSuS1), 1713/14 (French vintage, FranzJ) und 1716/17, bzw. 1720 (Concert vintage, ConcJ) zusammengearbeitet. Ein wesentliches und charakteristisches musikalisches Element des Musical praise of God are the diverse contrapuntal techniques that run through the dicta like a common thread.
